Luck and Death… and More

** New: Luck + Death: the Soundtrack for the Movie in Your Head is a complete album of music, all free to stream or to download in MP3 format. **

The third edition of my novel Luck and Death at the Edge of the World  has  just been published.

I’ve created this site for three main purposes:

  • to introduce Luck and Death to people who don’t know about it,
  • to supplement the factual material in the new edition, and
  • to give Luck and Death an extra dimension that an ebook can’t deliver.

If you’re new to Luck and Death, check out the Sample Chapters to see if it’s for you.

If you’ve already got your copy of Luck and Death, you know that the second edition added a new section called The Facts in the Fiction that gives readers a behind-the-scenes look at some of the factual background to the fictional story. This site takes that idea a step further. The third edition allowed Hipper Tiger Books to update the cover art.

The Facts in the Fiction includes text and images, as well as links to online material such as web pages, PDF documents, and videos. I did my best to make sure that the material was current and that I used links that were likely to be around for a while, but at some point I’ll inevitably want to update it even more.

I can’t send a new copy of the book to everyone who bought it, but this site allows me to do provide updates to anyone who wants them.

So take a look around — I hope you find something that interests you. And don’t forget to visit my main site and the other sites related to Luck and Death:

The Turing Centenary examines some of the highlights of the life and legacy of computer genius and war hero Alan Turing, upon whom Alan — the A.I. in Luck and Death — bases his appearance.

Homo Artificialis is devoted to real science being done right now that could one day contribute to artificial humanity, both in the form of artificial intelligence (like Alan in Luck and Death) and in the form of synthetic bodies into which a human consciousness can be uploaded (like the shell into which Gat was decanted when he joined the California National Forces).

Once & Future Mexico is blog about the Mexico of the future, including the real one and the one that’s imagined by science fiction writers like me.  A good portion of Luck and Death takes place in Mexico, a country I loved from the moment my plane landed on my first visit.
